So, just the other day I praised Victoria Beckham's new collection of dresses from her dVb fashion line. She has even found very quick success with the launch of the collection, some fashion insiders are even reporting that the ex-Spice girl now fashion designer's dresses sold out before NY Fashion Week. But Mrs. Beckham can barely take a moment to celebrate because now there is controversy surrounding the collection. Sources in the fashion industry are speculating that Victoria Beckham is not being too honest about her role as the sole designer of the collection. Although fashion designer Roland Mouret has been named as just a mentor to Beckham by her PR team, the striking resemblance between both his and Beckham's dresses calls for questions. Just how involved was Mouret? You can compare the dresses yourself...
There are only a couple minor differences between the two dresses. But I really do hope this is a coincidence Mrs. Beckham. Out of all the celebrity fashion lines, I had the most hope for her. I mean when you have celebs like Lindsay Lohan selling leggings with zippers and patches on them (I am still wondering why anyone would need patches on their knees, I mean what would you be doing in those leggings Lindsay?), Victoria has great style and great potential in fashion. But I am sure only time will tell the real position Mouret took in the design of this collection. Oh, and the collection is still fabulous.
I must say though, it kind of gets irritating to see all these celebrities running around here calling themselves fashion designers when they did not sketch, sew, or even develop the concept of any of their garments. All they do is approve or disapprove of the pieces that the real designers came up with. That is not a fashion designer. Celebs, here's a message for you: You can't buy your way into becoming a fashion icon, Coco Chanel didn't.
