First Lady Fix: Michelle Obama Looks Marvelous In Moschino

Friday, September 11, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama looked fabulous on the night of President Obama's controversial speech.

The First Diva wore a beautiful pink Moschino swing jacket with a bow front piquet. Jackie O? No, I think she is just trying to be Michelle. Is that okay?

Eat your little unfashionable hearts out. (This is for all of you who seem to think she wants to be Jackie O).

The woman is fabulous all by herself.

Iconic Fashion Quotes: First Lady Michelle Obama Thinks (And Speaks) Like A Fashion Icon

Thursday, September 10, 2009

“For me fashion is fun, and it’s supposed to help you feel good about yourself. I think that’s what all women should focus on: what makes them happy and feel comfortable and beautiful. I wear what I love. Sometimes people like it, sometimes they don’t. I’m fine with that.”
-Michelle Obama

That thinking is the one true secret of all the fashion icons. This quote was taken from a recent interview Michelle Obama had with Women's Health Magazine. To read more from this fabulous interview, pick up a copy of the September issue of Women's Health.

Michelle Obama Says President 'Doesn't Understand Fashion'

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama recently chatted it up in an interview with the New York Times about style, motherhood, and the president's lack of knowledge when it comes to fashion.

On the president's interest in her fashion choices, she says:

"He's always asking: 'Is that new? I haven't seen that before,'" she said, revealing that she replies: "Why don't you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet."

Imitating her husband's inability to understand her need for so many shoes, she says:

"You didn't need any more shoes. The shoes you had on yesterday were fine. Why can't you just wear that for the rest of the presidency?"

And about that silver belt that Barack hates so much:

"Barack calls it my Star Trek belt. He doesn't understand fashion."

They are just too cute. In related news, some crazy republican bastard is saying that Michelle Obama's style is not glamorous like Jackie O, and that she looks like James Brown. Read it here.

These right wing racists have nothing better to do I see. And if I am not mistaken, Michelle Obama didn't ask for any Jackie O comparisons. She just picks clothes that she likes, and doesn't follow any fashion rules. And how can someone that people claim is so impeccably unstylish manage to sell out half the stuff that she wears? That dress she wore on the View sold out in an hour after the show was aired. I guess we have a lot of unstylish women in America. Bless their hearts.

Michelle Obama To Receive Style Award From CFDA

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced on Monday that they will award First Lady Michelle Obama with the Style Award.

The CFDA said they are honoring Michelle Obama for her “inspiration and commitment to American fashion.”

The organization also plans to create a grant in her name to award to a new fashion company.

Former first lady Jackie O also received the award in 1994.

Michelle Obama Joins Oprah On 'O' Magazine April Cover

Friday, March 6, 2009

Two of my favorite divas have joined forces to cover the April 2009 issue of O magazine.

I simply love this cover and both ladies look fabulous.

First Lady Michelle Obama rocked it in her red cocktail dress and yellow sweater. The color combination is sick, but I do wish she had not worn the clear plastic belt. I have always hated clear plastic belts, shoes, and bags. It all just screams cheap to me. Nonetheless, she looks gorgeous.

And look at Lady O rocking one of the hottest colors of the spring, Rose Dust. The shade looks great on Oprah.

In the April issue of O, Michelle Obama talks to Oprah about adjusting to her new role and life in the White House.

The issue hits stands March 17.

First Lady Fashion|Michelle Obama Goes Sleeveless For Official White House Portrait

Monday, March 2, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama ditched the traditional skirt suit and old lady dress, and went chic in a sleeveless ensemble for her official White House portrait.

The Fashion Icon in the making wore a a black-crepe jersey racerback Michael Kors Spring 2009 dress that beautifully showed off those gorgeous arms of hers.

Michelle Obama is the first First Lady to ever go sleeveless in a White House portrait. Take that you fashion naysayers. Traditional fashion is so eight years ago.

First Lady Fashion|Michelle Obama At President Obama's First Speech To A Joint Session of Congress

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

President Obama made his first speech to a joint session of Congress last night, and of course First Lady Michelle Obama was there full force to support him and looked fabulous too...

Michelle Obama wore a sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez plum silk dress. Of course many of her critics will argue that she should have worn a suit like Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, but Michelle Obama is so damn fabulous she can basically do whatever she wants...and she does. And I just love it.

Meet Ikram Goldman..Fashion Advisor To Michelle Obama

*Chicago Tribune*

Michelle Obama is quite aware that her role as the First Lady requires her to be the target of intense scrutiny and criticism. And she also knows that from the day her husband was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, and until President Obama leaves the White House permanently, her every fashion blunder and victory will be quickly documented and a crucial part of her legacy as a First Lady.

While it may not make sense to most, the historical evidence is there.

People still talk about how independently stylish Jackie O was, do they not? They talk about her fashion sense more than the different causes she took on while she was First Lady.

So if fashion is such an important part of a First Lady's legacy, it would only make sense to seek professional counsel.

And Michelle Obama knew she had to get the best. Only Michelle Obama would choose a fashion industry powerhouse in the making as her fashion advisor.

*Anna Knott/AnnaKnott.com*

Ikram Goldman is a 41-year-old Chicago boutique owner. Born in Israel, Goldman's "Rush St." shop is a fashion capital to Chicago's best dressed.

Goldman chose and specially ordered Michelle Obama's gold dress and coat ensemble that was designed by Isabella Toledo.

Ikram Goldman is also known for her edgy fashion sense. And for someone who loves to take fashion risks as Michelle Obama does, this is the perfect match.

Ikram is a Jimmy Choo addict who cites Comme des Garcons, Thakoon, and Hussein Chalayan as style inspiration.

In a recent interview, Goldman stated:

"When you slip on a pair of Jimmy Choos, you instantaneously become a sexy woman."

I'm loving Ikram already.

First Lady Fashion|Michelle Obama At The First Black-Tie Dinner For National Governors Association

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Can you say...fabulous?

So while all of us fashion critics were drooling over the red carpet at the 2009 Oscars, it appears as if the 44th with his swagulous behind and First Diva Michelle Obama strutted down the red carpet themselves-fashionably.

Check out the fierce First Couple...

Yes!

Michelle Obama wore this oh-so-lovely glittery silver gown designed by Peter Soronen. Peter Soronen is a Chicago based fashion designer who made his debut at New York Fashion Week for Fall 2007. He's an up and coming fashion designer, and it is so Michelle Obama to once again select a designer who is on the come up.

I'm loving this dress...

My only complaint for the First Lady would have to be her overuse of pearls. While it is super stylish to wear more than one strand (thank you CoCo Chanel!), if you tend to wear that many strands, it's best to wear them in layers (at various lengths). But other than that, I think she looks exquisite.

I could use a glass myself, Mr. President.

And here's Michelle Obama at the dinner preview that took place prior to the dinner that evening talking to culinary students...

Cute look.

Fierceness at its best. I simply love our First Lady.

Michelle Obama Vogue

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama covers the March 2009 issue of Vogue magazine. We all know she is a real diva and this cover is just too fabulous not to post. Check out Michelle Obama's Vogue cover:

Doesn't Michelle look fabulous? Michelle Obama is wearing a purple sheath dress designed by Jason Wu.

I'm loving this Vogue cover with Michelle Obama looking fierce and so very stylish. Make sure you pick up your copy of the March issue of Vogue. I hear her spreads are fierce, and Jill Biden also has some spreads as well.

Michelle Obama Stirs Up Controversy For Not Wearing Black Designers For The Inauguration

Friday, January 23, 2009

In very stupid news of the day, First Lady Michelle Obama has touched a nerve in the black fashion community for not wearing any black designers on the day of her husband's Inauguration.

The Black Artists Association is apparently upset because Michelle Obama chose a Cuban-American designer and a Taiwanese-American designer for both her Inauguration dress and Inaugural ball gown.

The Black Artists Association's co-founder Amnau Eele told WWD, "It’s fine and good if you want to be all ‘Kumbaya’ and ‘We Are the World’ by representing all different countries. But if you are going to have Isabel Toledo do the inauguration dress, and Jason Wu do the evening gown, why not have Kevan Hall, B Michael, Stephen Burrows or any of the other black designers do something too?”

Eele continued with her temper tantrum and and also told WWD:

"It’s one thing to look at the world without color but she had seven slots to wear designer clothes. Why wasn’t she wearing the clothes of a black designer? That was our moment.”

Excuse me Amnau Eele, but I thought "our" moment was when the first Black president of the United States was sworn into office. And it wasn't just "our" moment, it was everyone's moment. It doesn't matter what your skin color is, everyone of all races is equally as proud of our country. People around the world were cheering, and they are from different places and of different ethnicities.

I cannot understand why this is even an issue. Michelle Obama chose designers who are American and virtually unknown! That is very commendable and I am proud of her decisions.

And if you really want to have a damn pity party about this, remember she has 4 years to wear as many black designers as she wants to.
Stop the foolishness.

Eele also plans to make a formal appeal to Michelle Obama's office for not choosing black designers.

Utterly ridiculous.

Beyonce's Beautiful Inauguration Ball Performance | President Barack And Michelle Obama's First Dance At Neighborhood Inaugural Ball

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

My favorite part of the night. Beyonce even teared up a little herself.

These two really love each other. Awesome performance by Beyonce.

Michelle Obama Chooses Jason Wu For Inaugural Ball Gown

After such a historic swearing in of our country's 44th president, it was time for my favorite First Family to dance a little.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama probably attended about 10 different Inauguration balls last night, but I think the media was more interested in what Michelle Obama chose for her Inauguration ball gown for the evening than anything else.

Michelle Obama chose Brooklyn based fashion designer Jason Wu's flirty white ball gown for her evening of dancing with the very handsome 44th.

This beautiful white one shouldered dress designed by Jason Wu again demonstrates Michelle Obama's fabulous habit of rejecting to select safe fashion choices like other First Ladies and her ability to pick bold pieces that make her statement of self-confidence very clear. This First Lady isn't afraid to wear garments that demonstrate her unique fashion sense and her youth. Jason Wu understood this perfectly. This choice for an Inauguration ball gown was very bold and very Michelle Obama.

The Inauguration ball gown had a fitted bodice and beautiful flare skirt, and an elegant train that seemed to at times get in the way of the First Couple's dancing. My only complaint for Michelle Obama's Inauguration ball gown choice designed by Jason Wu would have to be it's lack of practicality and lack of convenience for a night of dancing.

What one has to understand about the First Lady is she is not going to ever play it safe with her fashion choices. She won't continuously select pieces from notable and high-end designers like Oscar de la Renta, and she won't feel the need to wear colors that the unfashionably insecure would feel safe to wear.

While others may disagree with my very distinct satisfaction with Michelle Obama's choice in her Inauguration ball gown, I stand firm in my fashion independence and admiration of such a fashionably bold woman. Jason Wu designed a gown that reminded me of a fairy tale, and it was the perfect addition to a night and day that better belongs in a story book. This is why her choice in her Inauguration ball gown is flattering and worth much credit. She is daring in her fashion choices, hence exciting to watch.

Regardless of how you feel about her Jason Wu designed Inauguration ball gown, you must admit that this is one handsome couple. The next four years will be addictive.

Michelle Obama Chooses Inauguration Dress Designed By Isabel Toledo

I cannot even begin to tell you how impatient the fashion industry grew waiting for the day that Michelle Obama would choose her Inauguration dress. The subject itself has been more of a hot topic than the state of our economy as of late, and even some of the most established fashion designers found themselves submitting sketches to the First Lady and were not at all above the fashion frenzy. Who hasn't been anxiously waiting to see Michelle Obama's Inauguration dress?

Michelle Obama didn't help the situation. She refused to tell the press what designer she had chosen and instead opted to choose the Inauguration dress the day of Inauguration. Even fashion designer Isabel Toledo didn't get a notification, and found out like the rest of us: the television.

First Lady Michelle Obama's choice for her Inaguration dress was a pale yellow dress designed by Isabel Toledo.

*All photos from Getty Images*

Michelle Obama looked absolutely stunning in this dress designed by Isabel Toledo. This yellow sparkling gold sheath dress is simply stylish and it looked fabulous on her. Although I felt like the matching coat was a little bit much, the Inauguration dress itself was very impressive.

Isabel Toledo is a Cuban-born American designer who perfectly designed a dress that is a true testament of Michelle Obama's style.

The First Lady is known for picking bold pieces that include bold colors and even bolder accessories. So her choice in the dress designed by Isabel Toledo comes as no shock but very fashionable predictability.

Michelle Obama's pick of this Inauguration dress designed by Isabel Toledo was genius for a couple of reasons. For starters, she chose a young and up-and-coming fashion designer who was virtually unknown before yesterday. Secondly, she chose a dress that fits her style and didn't succumb to the traditional fashion rituals from previous First Ladies, such as picking high end and already established fashion designers. Lastly, she chose a designer who is Cuban-American. Perfect.

Inagural Fashion Night Fix: Kent State Students Create New Looks For Michelle Obama And Jill Biden

Thursday, January 8, 2009

I had to post this because I just thought this was absolutely fabulous.

Recently, Kent State students got together and came up with their own designs for Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. We have all been talking about the inauguration sketches from some of the most prominent fashion designers like Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Betsey Johnson, and others, but I am glad to see fashion students are also inspired, and are equally capable of coming up with extremely beautiful designs as well.

So I thought true lovers of fashion would absolutely appreciate and love this like I do.

Indulge...
Ella Tachovsky.

Brittany Thompson.

Elizabeth Medovich.

Phillip Fry.

Lindsay Dare.

Amanda Lombardi.

Staci Moening.

Sahley Bennett.
Krystal Hollon.

These students did a wonderful job and it just reminds you that there is still some great talent out there that the fashion industry needs, but they just haven't been discovered yet. And just from the looks of these sketches, innovation in fashion is anything but dead.

I love it.

First Family Fierceness | The Obamas Are Spotted Ending Hawaii Vacation

Friday, January 2, 2009

What better way to start off the New Year than a fabulous First Family post?

Our favorite first family has ended their 12 day get away in Hawaii, and it looks as if they had a really fab time, despite that Blogovich (spelling?, well hell I don't give a damn anyway because the man is an idiot) and the "Magic Negro" foolishness.

*Getty Images*

And of course Michelle O brought the fierceness on board with some "Diva" shades. Get like her.

First Kid Fierceness | Sasha Obama Is Fierce

Monday, December 22, 2008

It is official...Sasha Obama is a diva in the making. The fabulous first kid to be threw on these shades after arriving to Hawaii for the family vacation. And I also think I should mention that she originally had on a coat and was shades-less when leaving Chicago, and then (like a diva) put the shades on per arrival. Now only a diva knows that shades are a must have during vacay.

No one should be too surprised though...she gets her fierceness from her momma.

I am loving the new first family.

Fashion Designers Are Making Michelle Obama Make Tough Decisions For The Inauguration

Monday, December 8, 2008

We are all twiddling and drumming our fingers in excitement waiting for the Obamas to make some Inauguration fashion decisions. Well let's be honest, we are really only waiting on one Obama to make a choice: Michelle. Whether or not you consider her stylish, fashion savvy or just an imitator, Michelle Obama's choices in fashion will always make the headlines. So we can understand that Michelle Obama's Inauguration dress is a pretty big deal. And just about every fashion designer you can think of has sent in a sketch to the next First Lady (literally). Sounds kind of fashion iconic doesn't it? I mean who really cares what Barack is wearing? Although he has already made his choice-Chicago's Hart Schaffner. It is evident that Michelle Obama is the real news here. Pick that Inauguration dress already Michelle!

So I checked out the sketches, and here some of my favorites. Hopefully this will give you a short fix for your Inauguration Dress anxiety, but we all know there is nothing like the real thing is it?

*Badgley Mischka

*Nicole Miller*

*Monique Lhuillier*

*Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel*

*Marc Jacobs*

*Diane Von Furstenberg*

And the most interesting of them all:

Why, Betsey Johnson of course. You have to appreciate Ms. Johnson's individuality in fashion. I love it.
